Vital Records

In Maryland, when you head to the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) to renew, replace or get a new driver’s license, you can almost be certain that they’ll ask you to produce at least one vital record in order to obtain any of them.

In MD and most U.S. states, the most common vital record asked for at a motor vehicle division is your birth certificate as proof of identity. It’s always a good idea, no matter what, to have an official birth certificate (copy or original) accessible at all times.
